Honoring the Best of the Best
The College gathers to honor 2013 fellows, honorary fellows, and gold medalists.
Among the highlights of the AMCLC, Sunday night's convocation stood out to many as the apogee of their conference experience.
New fellows donned robes of various colors and were led down the aisle by outgoing ACR Vice President Paul A. Larson, MD, FACR, who carried the College's ceremonial mace. Then, guided by outgoing ACR President John A. Patti, MD, FACR, the new followers took the ACR Fellowship oath, reaffirming their determination to place the welfare of patients before all other considerations in their practice of radiology.
In addition to honoring the new fellows, the convocation also included recognition of the College's new honorary fellows — Moshe Graif, MD of Tel Aviv, Israel, and Mukund S. Joshi, MD, of Mumbai, India — and the presentation of the ACR Gold Medal to Richard T. Hoppe, MD, FACR, of Stanford, Calif.; Lawrence R. Muroff, MD, FACR, of Tampa, Fla.; and Harvey L. Neiman, MD, FACR, of McLean, Va.
"I consider it to be the highlight of my career," said Graif of his new designation. In a brief acceptance speech, Graif recognized the drastic changes occurring in the radiology field. "We are entering an age of personalized medicine, which unfortunately appears less personal than ever," he said.
The gold medalists also expressed heartfelt gratitude. "Forty-one years ago, I dreamed a dream, and tonight it came true," said Neiman, who thanked his family members for their continued support as well as his parents for instilling in him a strong work ethic.
