Q: What is your favorite aspect of the AMCLC?
I truly enjoy all of the AMCLC, but the Economics Forum is my favorite portion because it is always directly useful to my practice.
The ACR Economics and Health Policy Department, which plans the Economics Forum, serves the College by assessing medical socioeconomic research and its implications for the profession. Although both the department and the forum deal with issues directly affecting reimbursement for radiology and radiation oncology services, each also addresses policies far beyond this scope.

In 2011, guest speaker Shay Pratt, managing director of The Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C., gave an interesting talk on imaging and health reform. Other topics covered during the economics lectures and panel discussions included appropriate coding, accountable care organizations, Medicare payment systems, HOPPS, Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, and the Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction. The forum also included a discussion about the CMS meaningful use incentive program for electronic health records.
The expertise of the economics session lecturers and panel members is tremendous and clearly makes it a highlight for practicing radiologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, medical physicists, radiology residents, and fellows.
