RFS and Member Experience at ACR 2017: Part 2
ACR 2017 was a great success to say the least! Medical students, residents, and fellows gathered from around the country with a common goal; to learn how to advocate for our patients, make connections with our colleagues, and contribute to the dynamic evolution of radiology.
Highlights from the ACR-RFS section of the meeting included the welcoming of our new RFS Executive Committee. Members represent 10 residency programs from across the country from California to Florida.
Another valuable resident opportunity was the annual Speed Mentoring Event sponsored by AAWR and Radiology Leadership Institute®. In this session, radiology leaders from around the country spent time in small groups, mentoring residents on topics from job interview tips to getting involved in governmental relations. Frank Lexa, MD, MBA, FACR, provided expert advice for navigating job interviews, as well as developing your “hook” during follow up interactions. Richard Duszak Jr., MD, FACR, shared his experience as an active member in governmental relations. He emphasized the importance of getting to know legislators on a local level and offering your service as a physician expert to help advocate best for our patients.
Finally, ACR attendees were more connected than ever with the use of Twitter to network, gather, and advocate for our patients. James Rawson, MD, FACR, and Geraldine McGinty, MD, MBA, FACR, were among the most active Twitter users during the meeting! Resident and fellow members certainly benefited from their leadership.
The 2017 ACR Annual Meeting was a great success for the RFS. As communications officer, I encourage and welcome feedback from your meeting experience. Please tweet us at @ACRRFS and stay connected!
