CT Scans Determine How Pompeians Died — And Lived

For the first time ever, researchers are examining these plaster casts with a CT scanner to determine more concrete details about the citizens of Pompeii. For instance, they’ve noted that nearly all of the victims still possessed all of their teeth, suggesting a healthy, low-sugar diet. Other findings have dispelled common myths about the Pompeians. One famous cast, known as the “pregnant woman,” has not only been determined to be not pregnant, but it now appears the individual was male.
